It's definitely green, fast growing, and can produce 15 times more oil per acre than other biofuel plants.

Algae can grow in fresh water, salt water, contaminated water, ponds, and on land. In theory it grows better when fed extra carbon dioxide. So, it conceivably could provide fuel and clean up the environment.

A research group from the University of Virgnia has been given a grant to determine if algae could be the green fuel of the future.
